The History of La Central Bakery

For over sixty-five years, La Central Bakery and Tortilla Factory has been serving quality products to Ventura County in California. It was 1929 when Teófilo Rodriguez and his wife Carmen came to Santa Paula from Mexico. Unable to find the sweet Mexican breads he missed so much from his native land, Teófilo built a brick oven in their home. The wonderful aromas of the "semitas" baking drifted throughout the neighborhood. People came to their house with the hopes of buying their "pan" and word spread quickly. What a marvelous way to support his wife and his seven children! As the demand for his bread grew, his children began to help before and after school. New recipes were created and people were wanting more and more of his now popular Mexican breads.

In 1948, the Rodriguez family moved to Oxnard and purchased a small shop in order to expand their business. Today, that same building stands on the corner of Sixth and Meta Streets, and is owned by Teófilo’s only remaining son Francisco, and his grandson, Carlos P. Rodriguez. The original recipes remain the same. The Rodriguez Family is proud to carry on the traditions of Teófilo and Carmen. We carry a variety of breads and tortillas using only quality ingredients and no additives.

Taste the difference. Convince yourself.
